Christ Church has become the first church in Marlow registered to offer full marriage services to same sex couples. Revd David Downing said: " I am delighted that the church has voted with a clear majority to offer this service. We see it as a way of showing that God’s love is for all." Read full press release
Our autumn concert season began with a wonderful performance by the Chiltern Collective on Sept 12th. Next up, the Brompton Quartet on 9th Oct. Go to the Music in Marlow site for full details.
Work is underway laying the Walk of Life, a new paved path through our garden, fully accessible. For details of how you can sponsor a brick in the path, click here to go to the Walk of Life website.
Worship with us
We had to close the doors of our building during the pandemic, but we have now resumed meeting physically except for one Sunday a month when we will continue to meet on Zoom. As well as Sunday worship (below) we have occasional special 'Taize'-style services and others on special days in the calendar. A house group meets regularly and we hope to recommence monthly prayer breakfasts soon.
The regular pattern is shown below (all at 10.30). For more details of visiting preachers etc, see our church magazine.
1st Sundays - service led by a lay or visiting preacher
2nd Sundays - Holy Communion led by our Minister, Revd David Downing
3rd Sundays - online worship by Zoom, led by our Minister. For the Zoom code, email [email protected].
4th Sundays - some will be led by our minister, some by visitors
5th Sundays - usually joint with Maidenhead URC, either in our building or theirs.
Visitors are most welcome at any of our services. You will find our style is fairly traditional most of the time, but we strive to be welcoming as Jesus never turned anyone away. For us, church is a family and we accept and love each other, imperfections and all!
Covid-19: we are taking all sensible measures to keep the building safe for all, this includes regular cleaning, good ventilation, and limiting numbers for some events. Wearing masks in worship is optional but strongly encouraged when singing.
Special dates coming up (see magazine for details):
- Churches Together prayers at Little Marlow, 11th Sept
- 'Time of lament', 3rd October at 5pm
- CTM Harvest Supper at All Saints, 22nd Oct
- CTM AGM and celebration, 7th Nov
And don't forget garden prayers every Wednesday at 10.00, and Doreen's house group on alternate Tuesday mornings.
Who we are
Christ Church is a local congregation of the United Reformed Church (URC). We are in a 'joint pastorate' with Maidenhead URC, sharing the ministry of the Revd David Downing.
Our history in Marlow goes back over 300 years, to when "dissenters" first started meeting in the town. They rejected the authority of the established Church and demanded the freedom to worship as they chose, reading the bible and meeting jointly to discern God's will through prayer. Something of that independence of spirit still lives on in the URC, which sees itself in the tradition of 'the church reformed, always reforming' (reformata, semper reformanda).
None of this stops us being on the best of terms with our fellow Christians in Marlow! We are full members of Churches Together in Marlow and have strong connections with Marlow Methodist Church.

From the top of Marlow High Street, proceed towards Henley and pass Sainsbury's supermarket on your right. Take the first turning on the right into Oxford Road, with Platt's garage on your left. Continue for about 100 yards and you will see the church on the left.
